This is a bummer. Always sad to see a restaurant close, especially in the neighborhood. Had been meaning to go there as I only heard great things. The only thing that kept me away was that it was cash only, which I never have.

This is so sad. What a great little spot we’re losing.

The pozole verde from El Habañero is arguably the best in the city. Has gotten me through so many illnesses.
This hurts…

Damn….we’re losing a good one

Probably would have gotten more business if they weren’t cash only. That’s why I only ate there once. I remember leaving because I forgot the cash only thing and there was a place next door that had a sign that said they took credit cards. It made me laugh because I know why they put up that sign and that’s where I ended up eating instead.
Wow this is so sad. I have been really annoyed trying to order from them lately tho, never answer the phone and they jacked up the prices on door dash.

How many empty storefronts can Chicago endure? Seriously…never seen so many in my lifetime living in Chicago.

I lived in Logan Square when they first opened and absolutely loved this place. The pambazos are incredible—I still salivate just thinking about them. Beyond the amazing food, the family behind it is so kind and welcoming; they always made us feel at home. I’m truly sad for both the neighborhood and their family. Wishing them all the best, and I really hope I can visit one last time before they close.

I heard from the lady behind the counter at MeLatte next door that one of the El Habanero employees bought the business and is reopening it in the spring. A neighbor of mine heard this too, and that it was being reconcepted. Anyone here have any insight on this?

i literally just found out what a pambazo was this week because i tried a ahogado in GDL and then saw a post from 6 years ago of their pambazo and was about to head out there right now until i googled it and saw this… cannot believe they closed less than two weeks ago . does anyone have any recommendations for another spot?
